About The Linux Webring

The Linux Webring is a collection of Linux related web sites that link to each other with navigational 'buttons' such as Prev, Next, and Home. This brings each webmaster more visitors, and allows our visitors to easily find the Linux information that they are looking for.

Please link to this page anywhere you can, and tell your Linux-using friends & collegues about it. Check the member list for a list of all sites currently on the ring, and the queue for sites that are waiting to be added.

Requirements for Membership

Each web page belonging to this Webring must contain at least one of the following:

The URL you submit must point directly to your Linux-related content. This page must have the 'webring controls' somewhere on it. If it doesn't, you'll stay in the queue and will be be auto-removed after two weeks.

If your Linux information is only a small part of the page and the rest of the page has nothing to do with Linux, add a line like this to your page just above your Linux content: <a name="whatever"></a> then submit your URL with #whatever at the end of it. If your entire site is devoted to Linux, you may simply enter the "main" URL. If your page is frames-based, please also add the webring code between <NOFRAMES> tags so Lynx and Internet Explorer 2.0 users can see the 'controls'. An example of this is available on the code examples page.

If you do meet these requirements, read the next section about how to sign up. You must add the 'webring controls' to your page before you will be added as a member.

How To Join

I use Linbot to verify that all member sites exist. If you have a robots.txt file in with your web files, add these two lines to it so your site won't be marked as a broken link. If you don't have a robots.txt, no change is necessary.

User-agent: Linbot
Allow: /

Fill out the following form to add your site to the queue. When you submit your application you will receive an e-mail with your site's id number. A working sample of the HTML code to add to your page will be included in the e-mail. Either add that code to the page you signed up for, or see the code examples page for some ideas of code to use.

I will then visit your site, check to make sure it meets the qualifications listed above, then your site will be added to the ring. Shortly after, you will receive another e-mail, this time letting you know that you have been added to the ring.

If your browser is not forms capable (get a new browser!), or if your URL/title/e-mail address is longer than the space provided (40 characters each), send me an e-mail with your site's URL, title, description, a few keywords, and the password you would like to use. Please be patient if you do this, I get A LOT of mail and it may take me up to a week to add your page to the ring.
