There are three tiers of users we should consider when we look at a Calendaring solution for campus.
1) Administrative and academic leadership
2) All faculty and staff
3) Students
The task of this group should be to focus on all faculty and staff. Having one solution that scales to include all students is likely to be cost prohibitive. This doesn't mean that they should be excluded from consideration when gathering information about possible solutions. Providing a recommendation for any of these groups requires the same set of considerations. These include:
1) Technical requirements
2) Functional requirements
3) Cost
4) Current environment, transition concerns and strategies
The goal of this task force is to provide a recommendation based on an evaluation of these factors and how they apply to the three groups of users. Even though a solution may score high in one or more of these areas, its score in other areas could make it prohibitive. Once we are satisfied that one or more systems meets a certain level of criteria in these four areas we will make a recommendation to Don Harris who will then decide whether to move the project to phase 2 which would be to have an end user group look at the recommended system(s) and provide feedback. There would then be another decision point whether to move forward or not.
